Choosing between aluminum and steel raised floors for a UAE technical room requires more than comparing the base metals. Panels may differ in construction, finish, support arrangement and ventilation details. Compare complete offered systems against the room requirements before using material type as a deciding factor.
This approach is especially useful when a tender receives alternatives with different panel designs. A lower panel weight, a larger stated load value or a cleanroom label should prompt a document review rather than an immediate conclusion.
Identify what each quotation actually includes
Ask whether the proposed steel panel is cementitious-filled, hollow or another construction. For an aluminum panel, identify the manufacturing form, top surface and any perforation. Record the model reference and approved understructure for each option.
Start with SunTree’s aluminum anti-static raised floor and steel anti-static raised floor ranges, then request project-specific details. Product family names are not a substitute for a signed technical schedule.
Compare installed system mass
Aluminum is a less dense metal than steel, but that fact alone does not establish the weight difference between two complete floor systems. Panel geometry, core material, finish and understructure all affect installed mass.
Request panel mass and installed system mass per square metre on a clearly stated basis. The structural designer can then consider the floor system together with equipment and other project loads. Do not count a material change as a structural benefit until the complete comparison is available.
Put load evidence on a common basis
Check the test method, support arrangement, panel configuration and acceptance criteria behind each reported value. Concentrated, uniformly distributed and rolling loads describe different loading situations. A larger number under a different test condition is not automatically a better match.
| Review item | What should be comparable |
|---|---|
| Concentrated load | Contact area, location and deflection criteria |
| Rolling load | Wheel details, passes and support arrangement |
| Modified panels | Opening geometry and additional supports |
| System configuration | Panel, pedestal and stringer combination |
| Installed mass | Included finish and understructure |
Provide actual equipment foot or caster details, including the installation route. The rack load review guide explains the questions to resolve before translating equipment weight into a floor specification.
Review environmental and finish requirements separately
Ask about the proposed surface treatment, cleaning compatibility and any contact with other materials in the assembly. Neither metal name alone establishes suitability for the room’s moisture exposure or maintenance chemicals.
Where electrostatic control is required, evaluate the finished assembly and its installation requirements. Where cleanroom use is intended, identify the room’s cleanliness objectives, cleaning method and required evidence with the project team. Do not describe a floor as certified for a room classification merely because a brochure mentions cleanrooms.
Coordinate ventilation and replacement panels
If airflow through the floor is part of the design, distinguish solid panels from the exact ventilated model being offered. Ask the mechanical designer to assess the documented airflow characteristics and layout. Do not extrapolate from nominal open area alone.
Check whether solid and ventilated panels fit the same approved support arrangement. Record lifting methods, replacement identification and stock requirements. A mixed floor needs a location schedule so maintenance personnel can reinstate the correct panel in each position.
Make the selection reviewable
Prepare a side-by-side schedule showing compliance, deviations and missing evidence for each proposal. Choose on the basis of the complete application, including installation and maintenance constraints. Send SunTree your technical room requirements with equipment loads, floor height, finish and ventilation needs to request a defined proposal.
