Two calcium sulphate raised floor quotations can name the same core material while describing different panels. For Gulf projects, review the top face, underside, perimeter and cut-edge treatment together. A core name alone does not explain how the delivered panel will fit, be handled or be maintained.
The purpose of this review is to establish an identifiable panel construction. It is not to assume that one edge treatment automatically provides a particular fire, moisture or load rating. Those requirements need evidence for the specified assembly.
Ask for a complete panel section
Request a section drawing showing the core, top surface, underside and edge detail. Record total panel thickness and nominal module separately. If a quotation uses the term encapsulated, ask the supplier to identify exactly which faces are covered and how the skins meet at the perimeter.
Compare the drawing with the offered sample. A photograph of the decorative face cannot establish the underside construction or edge geometry. Give the approved section a reference that can appear on the order and inspection sheet.
Separate the finish from the edge construction
The walking surface and the perimeter detail serve different purposes. A finish selection should address the room’s use, while the edge review should address handling, fit and the manufacturer’s prescribed protection. Do not treat a surface finish code as a complete panel specification.
| Item to identify | Question for the supplier |
|---|---|
| Top surface | What finish and thickness are included? |
| Underside | What backing or skin is supplied? |
| Panel perimeter | How is the core protected at each edge? |
| Joint geometry | What clearances and installation checks apply? |
| Site cuts | What treatment and support detail are required? |
| Identification | Which model and revision match the sample? |
The calcium sulphate raised floor product page is a starting point for an enquiry. Confirm the actual offered configuration in the project documents rather than assuming every illustrated option is included.
Review openings before cutting begins
A cable opening or perimeter cut changes the original factory edge. Ask how the exposed cut should be treated and whether the remaining panel needs additional support. Provide the opening dimensions and position, not just a count of panels to be cut.
For a panel carrying equipment near an opening, request a specific review of that arrangement. A rating for an unmodified panel should not be treated as automatic approval for an altered one. Coordinate the detail with the cable cutout and grommet guide.
Do not confuse encapsulation with waterproofing
Metal skins or protected edges do not, by themselves, prove that a complete panel can withstand standing water, repeated wet cleaning or an unresolved leak. Request the manufacturer’s handling and environmental limits for the offered model.
For a Gulf project, record actual storage and indoor operating conditions, including any period before air conditioning is commissioned. Location alone is not a substitute for those conditions. Plan dry storage and resolve water ingress before installing the floor.
Preserve compatibility for later repairs
Replacement panels need to match more than the visible finish. Include overall thickness, underside bearing geometry, edge profile and the approved support system in the maintenance record. Store a labelled reference sample or detailed photographs where practical.
If a proposed replacement has a different skin or edge detail, ask for a compatibility assessment before mixing it into the floor. A similar appearance is insufficient evidence of fit or equivalent performance.
Build a clear approval package
Submit the panel section, sample identification, required performance evidence and proposed cut-edge procedure together. Keep unresolved items visible in the approval register. To request a SunTree quotation, include the floor area, room function, finish choice and expected openings so the enquiry covers the complete panel construction.
