ESD Access Floor Panels for Kenya: Procurement FAQ

An ESD access floor specification for a Kenya project should define what performance is needed, how it will be tested and who will approve the installed system. The phrase “ESD floor” is not a complete procurement specification.

What should the supplier’s electrical documentation show?

Ask for the offered finish and panel model, the test method, conditions and measured results. The responsible project specialist should compare these with the specified acceptance requirements. Avoid treating a brochure’s unqualified resistance range as proof for every installation.

Does a conductive surface solve every static-control issue?

No. Installation details, grounding, use and maintenance all influence the intended system. If the floor is also used as part of personnel grounding, the footwear-floor combination needs appropriate assessment. The EOS/ESD Association discusses why this combination matters.

Have the electrical or ESD specialist define the system and testing plan. The floor supplier should provide the relevant product and installation information rather than replace that project responsibility.

How should we compare HPL and PVC finishes?

Compare the exact grade, documented electrical properties, cleaning instructions and wear requirements. Both names describe broad material categories. Request a sample of the proposed product, and record its reference in the order so a later substitution cannot pass unnoticed.

Ask how cut edges, joints and replacement panels are handled. These details matter for maintenance and should be understood before selecting the surface.

Which mechanical details still need checking?

Static control does not replace structural selection. Provide equipment support positions, movement routes, floor height and panel dimensions. Request matching pedestals and stringers, with the relevant load documentation and approved edge and penetration details.

For an existing room, confirm compatibility with the installed support system. A replacement panel with the correct electrical description may still be mechanically unsuitable.

What should happen at handover?

Obtain the installed model list, care instructions and the records required by the project’s test plan. Cleaning products or procedures should follow the approved instructions. Record replacement references and assign responsibility for future verification in the facility’s maintenance programme.

How do we request a quotation?

Send SunTree Floor the Kenya location, application, floor area, height, load criteria, required finish and electrical specification. Review the steel anti-static raised floor and submit a project inquiry with the required documents and delivery schedule. Identify any technical questions still awaiting consultant review.
