Raised Floor Installation Checklist for Data Center Renovation

Renovating a raised floor in an operating data center requires coordination with the facility team before panels are lifted. The installation plan needs to protect service access, equipment support and any underfloor cooling arrangement while defining exactly which components will be retained or replaced.

Use this checklist to prepare the work scope. The approved site method and equipment requirements take precedence over a general checklist.

Survey the existing system

Record panel dimensions, construction, finish, support height and component identifiers. Inspect accessible areas for damage, movement and previous alterations. Obtain existing drawings where available and mark discrepancies found on site.

Do not order replacement panels solely from their nominal size. Edge profiles, thickness, supports and seating details must also match. If the original system cannot be identified, ask the supplier and project engineer to review a sample and the proposed replacement arrangement.

Coordinate services and work zones

Identify cable routes, cooling paths, detection systems and other services below the floor. Agree access restrictions, work windows and temporary protection with the facility operator. Record who may authorize panel removal and changes to the service layout.

Plan the sequence so openings, materials and temporary routes are controlled. Avoid leaving the installer to decide which areas can be opened around live equipment. The permitted work area and method should be established before the shift begins.

Check equipment and handling routes

Provide the engineer with equipment support positions and the proposed route for moving new units. Review transitions, ramps, thresholds and any temporary loading. Confirm protection measures and movement equipment as part of the site plan.

Replacement of a panel does not automatically resolve a weak or incompatible support structure. Include pedestals, stringers and fixing details in the inspection and replacement scope.

Confirm the material and installation package

  • Approved panel model, finish and relevant test documentation.
  • Matching supports and details for edges, openings and penetrations.
  • Agreed floor height, setting-out plan and installation tolerances.
  • Grommets, lifting tools, ramps and other scheduled accessories.
  • Handling, protected storage and cleaning instructions.
  • A record of existing parts retained and new parts installed.

Inspect before returning each zone to service

Check panel seating, stability, visible damage, edges and access openings against the approved specification. Arrange the specified electrical testing and cooling checks with the responsible specialists. Record defects and their closure before handover.

Confirm that service access points remain identifiable and that approved replacement panels and lifting tools are available. Update the drawings and component schedule so future maintenance does not depend on guesswork.

Prepare a renovation inquiry

Send SunTree Floor the existing system details, photographs or drawings, affected area, floor height, loads and required finish. Review the server room application and request a replacement or new-system assessment. State whether the facility will remain operational during the work, since this affects planning and supply sequencing.
